Building on the style and success of the SHIELD HEADLIGHT comes a new chapter in chopper headlights...
The premier headlight on the market is made in the USA in-house at CTNEWMAN ENGINEERING from manifold grade materials and beautifully hand polished. GLASS lenses ensure durability and longevity. An incandescent 55w H1 bulb (or two) provides a lot of light where you need it.
Overall dimensions are 5.5 wide x 3.25 tall
Loads of options to make each light perfect for each bike. Add color, multiple mounting configurations, body style, bezel style... 238,920 total combinations!
BACK STYLE
- Plain: simple, clean
- Deco: a detail on the top of the body adds style
- Ribbed: straight or angled (after pre-order one style will be standardized)
- Extended: add some visual mass (and actual mass). The rear extension is solid and can be drilled/tapped to allow for unique mounting methods or to add some extra stylish pieces
INVERT BODY
The back of the light can be inverted for any number of reasons: Looks, beam pattern, mounting ease (hang from top triple tree, for example), or whatever your heart desires.
FRONT STYLE
- Plain: simple, clean, cost effective (ish)
- Visor: keeps the light focused on the road where you need it. Looks righteous.
- Tribar: vintage-style with a splash of customizable color *SEE NOTE ABOUT JEWELS BELOW*
MOUNT STYLE
Two 5/18-18 UNF mounting holes are provided by default and can be used with any mount you fabricate.
For simplicity, add the optional clevis mount. Mount position is customizable. (can be changed between STANDARD/FLIPPED at any time)
INDICATOR JEWELS
Available for PLAIN or DECO housings, indicator jewels add a splash of color to your headlight and allow you to customize the style of your light.
Jewel indicators can let you know that your light is on during the day. In the case of dual bulbs, the back-mounted jewels can make it clear which bulb is illuminated (the jewels are right behind the bulbs) *SEE NOTE ABOUT JEWELS BELOW*
Jewel colors can be changed at any time.
BULB QUANTITY
One H1 bulb releases a lot of light, but you can double the output with two. Can be wired as Hi/Lo or just run as a blinding full power LOW BEAM. *SEE NOTES ABOUT BULBS BELOW*
LENS COLOR
Choose clear glass or vintage style yellow glass.
PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT INDICATOR JEWELS:
Incandescent bulbs get HOT. Unlike all other components in the headlight, the indicator jewels are plastic and less heat tolerant than glass, stainless steel or aluminum. As such, I cannot guarantee that the jewels won't discolor/fade/melt or fail in any way.
At release time the following testing was performed: 55w H1 bulbs run at 15v for a total of 70w output. Test length was 6 hours straight and had NO AIRFLOW over headlights
- TRIBAR jewel had no discoloration or damage
- CENTER jewel had medium discoloration and experienced some distortion. Heat rises!
- REAR jewels were run with a DUAL BULB configuration (for 140w output) and experienced minor discoloration and distortion.
The good news is that the jewels are VERY cheap and readily available (4 dollars or so at an amplifier repair store) so if they take damage you can just swap them out quickly. That said, for the interest of reliability, indicator jewels should be considered a "for show only" option.
PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT BULBS:
CTNEWMAN SHIELD HEADLIGHTS have run incandescent H1 55w bulbs since their inception with no known issues. It should be noted, however, that incandescent bulbs emit a lot of heat. Housings can get HOT. Adding a second bulb will double the heat emission. All components in the headlight are thermally stable to 500 degrees F. Please use caution when touching a lit headlight housing/glass/etc.
