After years of R&D the CTNEWMAN ENGINEERING ALTMAG is now available. The ALTMAG is the only generator mount magneto that incorporates a charging system into the design, allowing you to still have lights/electric start/etc while moving the magneto off the right side of thebike (maybe to clear exhaust or make room for controls, etc). It can also be used to run dual magnetos on a generator bike.
The ALTMAG is bolt-on, and requires no modification. In fact, the cam chest doesn't even need to be opened. Just unbolt the generator, bolt the ALTMAG in place, set the ignition timing, and connect a pair of wires. Should clear most frames. Exhaust could be hit or miss and may require modification.
Choose FINISH: The main body is made from 6061-T6 billet aluminum and can be delivered raw, polished or vapor blasted satin. Polished parts are external aluminum parts only. Internals are made from nickel plated 4140 steel.
Choose BIGTWIN or IRONHEAD: (BIGTWIN fits knucklehead, panhead, gen shovelhead as well as BT Flathead)
Choose MAGNETO or SUPPLY YOUR OWN: (any hex drive Morris Harley magneto). Includes all hardware (reuse your generator mounting bolts). If you want a polished magneto that can be arranged for an additional charge. Email me.
Choose AC or DC: the ALTMAG allows you to do some intersting things with your charging system, including an ultra minimal headlight/taillight system. Also see wiring diagrams in photos. AC/DC choice is non-reversible and cannot be easily changed from AC to DC. ALTMAGS are built as DC units unless you email me at time of purchase to request AC.
- ULTRA SIMPLE 14V AC SYSTEM: Mag alt has one wire coming from it. Run it directly to your headlight. Tie in a micro voltage regulator (about 1.5 x 1 x .75 in)... I put it under my gas tank. Put a resistor on your brake switch for a one wire tail laight solution (or use prism supply switch). About as simple as it gets. Requires incandescent bulbs (NOT LED)
- SIMPLE 14V AC SYSTEM: Similar to above but uses a standard two wire taillight. Requires incandescent bulbs (NOT LED)
- NO BATTERY DC SYSTEM: requires a much larger Harley style regulator and capacitor. Can use LED or incandescent lights. Can be converted to one-wire taillight.
- STANDARD DC SYSTEM: similar sytem to OEM alternator systems. Can be built out with signals/etc. Max draw 15A. Can use LED or incandescent lights. Can be converted to one-wire taillight.
